Crego was the baddest bad guy Bronson ever played in a western. It was on a " GUNSMOKE" episode called " THE KILLER", and as a neurotic, homicidal coward, Bronson was really scary, a rattle-snake. Crego tries to slap Miss Kitty. Matt disagrees...

You can find "THE KILLER" in the DVD box set "GUNSMOKE : THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION", along with another Bronson episode, "THE LOST RIFLE". In this one, Bronson plays Ben Tiple, a nice poor rancher, friend of Matt Dillon's, who's accused of murder. He adopts an orphan teenager... But Crego is much more impressive !

You're welcome. You can also see Bronson in seasons one and two from "HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL". In "THE OUTLAW", he has a full beard, for the only time of his career, and plays a dangerous yet endearing fugitive. His interactions with Richard Boone are great. He made another episode : "THE MAN WHO WOULDN'T TALK". and he plays a very shy rancher who asks Paladin to teach him good manners with women. A very funny film, based on "CYRANO", with a realistic fistfight at the end. Here is Bronson as Holt in "THE OUTLAW". Gives an idea of what he could have looked like, if he had done "A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS".

Oh my god this is the coolest Bronson's picture I've ever seen. The only time I saw him with beard before was in "The Dirty Dozen".
Why he didn't grow a beard in other movies, he was great?
Thanks crego

Just watched Bronson as Crego in "The Killer" again and it's a great performance by Charlie. Such a conniving weasel. There's a moment where Charlie feints at James Arness and it looked like he was coiled up and ready to strike but then backed off.
At 6'7" Arness stood about a foot taller than Charlie but I would guess in real life Charlie probably could have chopped him down based on that personal body language that snuck into the Crego character.
