What are your thoughts on Sly. He has been a pretty good action star, for over thirty years now, and was wondering if we can talk about his career(past, present, and future). He has a new movie coming out called "The Expendables".

Grew up on Sly movies and remember being exhilarated in my teen years by films like "Nighthawks" and "First Blood". This carried over through some of the "Rocky" sequels until I began to realize that the films weren't very good and Sly's storylines could be pretty dumb ("Over the Top"). He also began to try to pass himself off as something he was not originally since he bought into his own stardom. His expanding 80's muscles had a lot to do with that, as did his brief marriage to Brigitte Nielsen and all the models he'd briefly date after seeing their photos somewhere in a magazine. Saw him for what he became, a primping, roid-aided, lift-wearing guy who didn't resemble at all the hungry unknown who wrote and starred in the first "Rocky" (kudos to him for that). He'd be on talk shows trying to pass himself off as an intellectual talking about his Matisse paintings, yet the screenplays he'd write were by the numbers cartoon flicks that high school kids could have dashed off. They were likely only greenlighted because of his name and his appeal at the time. His career began to suffer appropriately.
He can still be effective when using self-deprecating humor, but think he's built himself physically due to ego into far too limited of an actor and persona. Not surprised to see him get busted for HGH a year or two ago. Overall, liked him in the early years, not so much the last 25. Sorry, Sly.

I can't think of any other actor having such a long career and being always on the top.He made Rocky in 1976 and he is still starring in box-office hits Like "John Rambo" and "The Expendables" 35 years later. He's possibly the most successful actor.

Sly is still in great shape, still making movies and training 5 days a week. He is also one of the nicest stars to talk to and has a great since of humor. He is also a huge Bronson fan.

Yea, in Muscle & Fitness last year! He talked about Bronsons movie career, he talked about how Bronson was a family man who "went to work and then went home and didn't relish the limelight". And he brought up how fit and in shape he was. Muscle and Fitness even ran a smal picture of Bronson for the article.

Yea, it was nice running across the article. I'm amazed at how the Bronson legacy lives on.

Like Bronson and Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone is a real action hero. And not a walking cartoon , like Jean Claude van Damme, Steven Seagal or the Rock.

While Charles is my favourite ever actor ,Stallone for me is the greatest action superstar. I put him above Arnold due to his writing and directing skills. There's a final Rambo coming out now too to look forward to!
