Charlie was reportedly under consideration to portray Superman in the late 1970's. He supposedly even did a test for the role. That would have been something to see, a craggy faced Charlie nearly 60 years old and playing the Man of Steel.

It's possible. After all, Bronson made a few films for director Donner, on TV and "X-15" and "TWINKY"... Please, a picture !!!

I have heard this story before but find it hard to believe. He just wasn't "superman"-like. I just don't see him flying around in a cape, romancing Lois Lane and saving the day. He'd be more like, "fix it yourself" and bail...

I think this was just talk. I remember reading magazines from around that time saying something along the lines of "the studio wanted a big name to play Superman. Someone like Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, or Charles Bronson. Instead they went with an unknown." I suspect this is where the rumors came from.
