Publicity generally listed Charlie at 5'10", an average male height, but some accounts put him at least a few inches shorter than that. It's entirely common in Hollywood for actors to fudge on their height. Even legitimately tall actors like John Wayne liked to add an inch or two in stature.
Early in Charlie's career he seemed to play "short" characters (in SHOWDOWN AT BOOT HILL his lack of height is an important plot point), but later when he became a star it seemed as if he suddenly grew in stature. There were some reports that co-stars or supporting players couldn't be over a certain height in a Charlie film, again a common occurrence for stars of the day such as Burt Reynolds, Robert Redford, etc.
So, how tall was Charlie? 5'6", 5'7", 5'8", 5'9", 5'10"? Whatever his true height, he still had to be pound for pound one of the toughest and most feared men in Hollywood. What do others think?

I had the fortune meeting actor James Drury star of The Virginian tv series in the 60's. Charlie starred in 2 or 3 episodes alongside James. In his hay day I can safely say James was a tall man near 6ft. At the the age of 75 he is still fairly tall. On screen Bronson seemed alot shorter than The Virginian so thats what I am working from.

He was taller than Alan Ladd, who was a short guy. In "DRUM BEAT", they never stand or sit at the same time : when one stands up, the other sits down...
