I have just got into watching this guys movies in the past year, because when people talk about the greatest movie stars, Cary Grant's name usually comes up, so I started watching his films, and have been pleasantly surprised about this actor. He had a charisma and uniqueness, that not many people can match(even in the golden era). I was wondering what you guys think about this famous movie star?

He had a really unique style and his acting style was years ahead compared to some actors of his era.My favorite performance was the one he made in "North By Northwest"."Charade" is a movie that I'm curious to see when I find some time...Have you seen it?

CHARADE is pretty good as is an older Grant in it, plus it's got James Coburn and George Kennedy in support. There's a pretty good fight scene on top of a building between Grant and Kennedy, though it's mostly doubles. NORTH BY NORTHWEST is grand entertainment, though I always thought Hitchcock let Grant go way over the top during the drunk driving scene to the point of silliness, undermining some of the suspense of the car careening along the cliffside. TO CATCH A THIEF is another solid film. Not all that familiar with a lot of Grant's earlier light romantic and comedic stuff, except for GUNGA DIN. A very smooth, suave presence. I believe it's been said he was an influence on the screen incarnation of the James Bond character and was in early talks on playing the part.

Yeah, I have seen "North By northwest", and is a great movie. See your point about that drunken scene, but if you see more of grants movies, that was his persona. he was a goofy screen personality that people had grown too love, and Hitchcock knew that, so he let grant get away with it, but if he was directing someone like James Stewart, he would have not let him go that over the top, because his fans would not have liked that, and he had a different screen personality, so he was smart enough to direct toward actors strengths. I have watched "Charade", and it's a fun movie too watch. I was always amazed how grant worked SO well with his female costars, because from all his classic movies, its like a who's who of female movie stars.

What do you guys think what made him popular, for SO long. He was a box office draw to his final film(Walk Don't Run). I know it was the "IT" factor, but he, like John Wayne, are one of the most durable movie stars ever. I just find it fascinating , because there are not any stars today, that will match the durability of Grant or Wayne.
