There's an old interview with great character actor Strother Martin at the following site. He talks about Charlie and the making of HARD TIMES. Surprising to hear that the actors were disappointed with the final version of the film and all the footage that was cut out. Strother says they were trying to get Charlie an Oscar! I always had the impression that "Hard Times" was "raped" in the edit room.They really destroyed that movie.I can't understand why they didn't put all the fights they filmed, it was the most important element of the movie.

I remember thats one of the reasons, along with Walter's comment about Jill's acting, why Charlie never would work with him anymore.
