Hobo with a shotgun
A homeless man (Rutger Hauer) travels by train trough the country. He stops in a city looking for food and a place to sleep. unfortnuley this city in one big hell hole. a modern Sodom and Gommorah infected by crime, poverty and violence. The Police is total corrupt and a maniac Mobster boss The Drake (Brian Downey) and his two sadistic sons terrorise the streets.
At first the drifter doesnt want to get involved, but then he is witness of a rape atempt by one of the mobsters sons, on a young hooker. He saves her, but as a reward he gets beaten up and left for death by the Police chief, who is on the pay roole by The Drake. The young hooker friends him and takes him in. After his recovery, the drifter desides to take a stand. During a robbery atempt, on a secound hand store he kills the three robbers. From then on, he starts a one man crussade against the underworld.
Robbers, dealers, pimps, rapist and a child molester are killed one by one. Crime rates drop and the public cheer for the actions of the vigilante Hobo. Angry and irritated, by his actions, The drakes decides to get rid of the Vigilante.
Director Jason Eisener made this movie as a homage to the 70's action movies. Like the Death Wish and the Dirty Harry saga. Although the caracter played by Rutger Hauer, doesnt belong to the middle class like architect Paul Kersey (Bronson) and Police
men Harry Callahan(Eastwood), he is also an outsider and a solist , who provoked by the violence and injustice takes matters in his own hand.
A big difference between Hobo with a shotgun and the bronson -Eastwood movies, is that it hasnt a political message and is more a comic action book put on film. The violence is over the top and is almost out of a splatter horror movie and not for the sensible viewers. I found it verry entertaining.
