Director:John Sturges Writer(s):Lee Hoffman, Clair Huffaker, Massimo De Rita, Arduino Maiuri, Rafael J. Salvia Actors:Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland
Chino is an old-fashioned western. From a Bronson starring De Laurentis production you'd except something more interesting.Chino was one of Bronson's most boring films from 70's

I can't say I agree with you, here. "CHINO" is a sad, contemplative euro-western, with very little action, but excellent scenes between Bronson and the kid Vincent Van Patten. Chino was an endearing character, lonely, shy and fiercely independant. Bronson didn't even win, at the end ! Bronson asked his old friend Sturges to direct the film, but he fell ill after a few days, and was replaced by italian producer Diulio Coletti. Bronson didn't object and went on working on "CHINO". This was the end of his long friendship (they first worked together in "THE PEOPLE AGAINST O'HARA", back in 1951 !) with John Sturges.

Agreed, extremely uncharacteristic for a Bronson or Western movie but surprising in a good way.

The DVD available in the U.S. are awful, worse than an old VHS. The only way to fully enjoy " CHINO", is to get the english edition of the film with a pristine copy and a good sound. It changes everything, of course... This is the one to get. Different title, too...

Before reading this thread, I thought this was considered by most Bronson fans as one of his worst movies. I also didn't know there was a GOOD print of this on DVD, either. I thought all of them were VHS or less quality, there's a new Danish release that even states on the back that the quality is that of a VHS. I also have the Laserlight release due to the nice intro by Tony Curtis, but now I must get the English release as well since it has better picture quality.
