I'm not so sure... Bronson's persona never was "crazy", even in the first "DEATH WISH", he played Kersey as a stoic avenger. When he tried playing a nutcase like in "SOMEONE BEHIND THE DOOR", it wasn't convincing at all. And Travis Bickle IS a nutcase.

I remember the film. And yes, Henriksen was not a bad idea, but Bronson's role was minimal in this film focused on Jill and her adopted son. Who else could've played Bronson ? Fred Ward is obvious. Robert Forster, too. Or even Robert Blake who looks and sounds like Bronson.

In fact, I kind of resent the "DEATH WISH" sequels, because most people remember Bronson only for these pathetic turkeys, and forget the great films he made in the sixties and seventies. But that's life, and nobody forced Bronson to sign, I guess...

No, that was Marlène Jobert. Liv Ullmann, Ingmar Bergman's favorite actress was with Bronson in "COLD SWEAT".

Liv Ullmann wrote bad things about him in her biography, remembering Bronson never said a single word to her, during the whole shooting. Claudia Cardinale kind of liked him, but Bronson said in an interview "She's no Anne Bancroft, but she's okay". Lee Remick was afraid of him during "TELEFON" ("He's liable to bite me" she said to Don Siegel, who wanted her to kiss Bronson by surprise in one scene). Most of his other films co-starred Jill Ireland, so...

Michèle Mercier, her female co-star in "YOU CAN'T WIN'EM ALL" didn't like Bronson too much. First time they met, she was resting on the set, a stool under her feet. Bronson kicked the stool, picked it up, and put his own feet on it, without a smile or a word.

His last look, alone in the dark, is really chilling. After all these years of terrible films, "old stone face" could still deliver !

He was taller than Alan Ladd, who was a short guy. In "DRUM BEAT", they never stand or sit at the same time : when one stands up, the other sits down...

A box set of "THE TALES OF WELLS FARGO", with 46 episodes of the series, has recently been issued. Does anyone know if it includes Bronson's episode "BUTCH CASSIDY" ?

Van Cleef had a small part in a "TRAVELS OF JAMIE McPHEETERS" episode, with Bronson. But they only shared on scene, with Bronson in the background. Lee Van Cleef became a star because Bronson refused to play his parts in "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE" and "THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY".

I think Buchholz was a disaster for "THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN". Apparently, Sturges liked him a lot, and gave him lots of screen time. Why ? hard to tell, when you see the results... O'Reilly could have had a bigger role, but Britt is OK : the less he talks, the more fascinating he is.

According to "VIOLENT CITY" director Sollima, the two men didn't like each other too much, and never socialized during the shooting. They did 3 films together and a "EMPIRE" episode, too.
